2025 Anim Tinderbox Sandstone and Scoria Pinot Noirs (6pk)

Southern Tasmania is a dynamic landscape. Here, in one of the coldest, most marginal wine climates in the world, Pinot Noir thrives. High sunlight hours, low rainfall, cool nights and unrelenting wind are features of this place. Geologically, Tasmania has more in common with Antarctica than the mainland of Australia.

It’s this geology that we shine a spotlight on here, by way of the Tinderbox vineyard. The bottom block, located on a shelf of Triassic sandstone some 200-250m years old. The top block, located on vesicular basalt called scoria, the product of a magma intrusion and pyroclastic flow some 30m years ago. On the 2nd of April, 2025, we harvested Pinot Noir on the same day from each of these blocks and vinified the wines separately. Travel through time with this excursion into the rocky minutiae of a spectacular vineyard in Southern Tasmania.
